Beyond the Barrelman

an exhibition of Contemporary Filipino Art

submissions

Eligibility
The exhibition is open to all artists of Filipino descent, who are at least 17 years old, regardless of current residence. Entries must be original works executed after January 1, 2002, and not have been previously submitted to the Beyond the Barrelman Exhibition.

Submitted works must be available between August 15, 2008, and October 1, 2008.

Entry Fee
The non-refundable submission fee of $30 for one to four entries can be paid by money order, cashiers check or Paypal. [For full-time students currently enrolled in an accredited institution, the entry fee is only $15.]

Checks and money orders should be payable to "Filipino American Network." Upon submission of your online entry form (below), you will receive a Paypal invoice via email. You may pay your entry fee either through Paypal or regular mail. Your submission will be considered only after your entry fee payment has been received.

Entry Specifications
Please note the following restrictions:

  • Only two-dimensional (2D) non-jewelry works may be submitted. Photographs and framed sculptures no larger than 50"H x 50"W X 4"D are acceptable.

  • All works must be prepared for immediate hanging!!! They must be framed with screw eyes and wire (NO saw-tooth hangers).

  • We recommend that any shipped work use Plexiglas.

  • Maximum size including frame: 72" x 90"

  • Minimum size: 12" x 4" (unless mounted under Plexiglas and ready to hang)

  • Maximum weight: 30 lbs.

  • Labeling: include artist name, artwork title and artist email or phone on the back of the work.

The jury panel will have final authority to define what constitutes an acceptable entry. Artists will be notified via the email provided in the entry form of the jury's decision.

Delivered work that differs from the entry photo will be disqualified. The Beyond the Barrelman Exhibition reserves the right to exclude any entry that presents complex installation problems or is unsuitably prepared for hanging.

Sale of Artwork
Unless otherwise instructed by the artist, the exhibition will encourage and promote the sale of artwork. During the first exhibition, which was viewed by about 1,500 people during its one-month run, almost one-fifth of the exhibited artwork was sold. We anticipate that approximately 3,000 will view the exhibition in the new higher-traffic location.

In order to help cover a portion of the exhibition's cost, the Beyond the Barrelman exhibition will collect a 20% commission on any sold artwork.

Liability and Agreement
Artworks must remain on display at the Mercury Cafe Gallery throughout the month of September 2008. The Beyond the Barrelman exhibition and its presenting organizations (the Filipino American Network, Tahanan and CIRCA/Pintig) shall have the right to use photographs and representations of accepted work for promotional purposes.

Insurance
Artists are responsible for insuring their own works. Neither the Beyond the Barrelman exhibition nor any of its presenting organizations nor any of their representatives will be responsible for loss or damage to any work of art.
