Yvonne
T. Hortillo
Yvonne T.
Hortillo is putting to good use her
Catholic university education from
Loyola University Chicago by writing
journalism and poetry.
Along the
way of finding suitable scrapbook
material, she discovered a World War II Dutch
technique called kaleidoscope folding
using tea bag covers. Tiny square pieces
of patterned paper formed a medal, a
star, a flower, or whatever else the
imagination can conjure.
In 2006,
her kaleidoscope folds bloomed into a
collection of abstract pieces titled
"Stars Imported" for the juried 2007
Recycle Art Show at the East Hawaii
Cultural Center in Hilo, Hawaii.
"Flowerboxes" is her second attempt at
deciphering just what else tiny square
papers with eight points and five folds
can do.
