Roberto
Jamora is a senior at Virginia
Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA,
majoring in Painting and Printmaking. He
was born in Annapolis, Maryland on June
24,1987 and raised in Virginia Beach,
VA.
His mother
is from Giporlos, Samar, and his father
is from Sorsogon, Bicol. Since high
school, he has been involved with
organizations like Filipino American
Cultural Society (FACS) and Filipino
American National Historical Society (FANHS).
He is currently a National Director of
Filipino Intercollegiate Networking
Dialogue, Inc. (FIND) District 7.
Roberto is
currently studying and mostly
concentrates on painting but he also
works with video, drawing, printmaking,
and digital media. He spent his first
year of undergrad at Rutgers University,
where he studied Television and Media
Arts. Then he transferred to the VCU
School of the Arts, where he is
currently pursuing a BFA in Painting and
Printmaking. He studied abroad in the
Philippines through Tagalog On Site,
situated at the University of the
Philippines at Los Banos, Laguna, and
throughout the Philippines, in the
summer of 2007.
In his
recent work, he has been making
representational paintings by
transposing different images from
photographs, objects and drawings
through paint on canvas. He communicates
content through color, marks and varying
degrees of representation. He
personifies things and places to reflect
narratives of people like distance and
social constructions. The imagery he
uses come from photographs from epic
places that he has traveled, like the
Philippines, California, etc. His
paintings usually reference landscape,
but collage and still life also. The
amount of information that he gives the
viewer is part of the evocative
experience in his work. He shows the
power in the stillness of things.
