Beyond the Barrelman

an exhibition of Contemporary Filipino Art

Patti Lorenzo Encarnacion

Patti Lorenzo Encarnacion

Artist website: http://pattile.blogspot.com/

Born and raised in the Philippines, Patti came to the US in 1991 to pursue a degree in Fine Arts. She graduated with a BFA in 1994 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She chose not to major in any particular medium because there was so much to discover in this new place! She took courses in Visual Communication, Fashion Design, Painting, and Sculpture. She graduated well-rounded but, ironically, undecided about what she really was.

Now, 15 years after graduating, motherhood, unexpected tragedies, and epiphanies, she has developed a style that is collective, albeit mixed. She embraces chance by using found materials and playing with mistakes. She take risks in paper manipulation, color mixing and using new materials. It is an ode to the DADA and anti-art movement that paved the way to Abstract Expressionism and for the post-modernists.
